My father was a sign writer, pushed out by the introduction of cheap plastic signage and I’ve been known to wield his brushes for a few choice establishments. This wall, believed to of been painted in the 1930’s, is in Bitterne, Southampton, UK.
Heritage. People. Place.

This sign is still popular. I had a degree in Graphic Design long before computer aided design existed. I am appalled by how bad some letter spacing is. Including Sainsbury’s! There are rules about how much spacing should be left and although this can vary the letters should be proportional. To me everything looks tacky. I can see that you are proud of your father and so you should be there are not many who can do his sort of work now.
